COURSE DESCRIPTION
COURSE OVERVIEW

There is a large group of physicians and dentists who retain privileges to perform procedures which require administration of moderate sedation and analgesia to patients.

As part of the NYP process to obtain privileges to administer moderate sedation and analgesia, physicians must document successful completion of training and education in Moderate Sedation and Analgesia. This computer-based training module has been developed to assist physicians in fulfilling this requirement.

Completion of this training module, in itself, does not confer privileges. It is one part of a three part process which additionally requires current ACLS or PALS certification and a clinical privilege granted by the Chief of Service to perform moderate sedation and analgesia."

Physicians who require privileges at both campuses must apply for them at each campus. The Certificate of Completion obtained from successful completion of this course work is accepted at both campuses.

Course material will address the following:

  • Hospital policy and general principles of Moderate Sedation and Analgesia.
  • Professional staff qualifications and responsibilities.
  • Pre-procedure, intra-procedure and post-procedure requirements for administration of Moderate Sedation and Analgesia.
  • Pharmacology of analgesics, sedatives and antagonists.
